How We Create Our Custom Hammered Copper & Brass Range Hoods with Patina

In a world of mass-produced appliances and cookie-cutter kitchens, few things stand out quite like a handcrafted metal range hood. We don’t believe a range hood should be an afterthought. In our world, it’s the soul of the kitchen — a functional sculpture that sets the tone for the entire space. Every custom hammered copper or brass hood we make is built by hand, shaped by fire and hammer, and finished with a patina that tells its own story.
Here’s what our process really looks like behind the scenes.

1. We Start With Your Vision
Every project begins with a conversation. At Amoretti Brothers we want to understand your space, your style, and the feeling you want when you walk into your kitchen every morning. Rustic farmhouse? Old-world European? Clean modern lines with a touch of soul?
From there, we help you choose:
- Copper or brass
- The shape and scale of the hood
- The level of hammering and texture
- The patina finish — subtle and warm or bold and dramatic
Nothing is off-the-shelf here. Each hood is designed specifically for your home, and to do that we provide you with a CAD drawing for your approval before we start production, to make sure we are going to make exactly what you want.

2. We Hand-Hammer Every Surface
Once the design is set, we begin with raw sheets of copper or brass. This is where the piece truly comes alive.
We hand-hammer the metal using traditional tools and techniques. Every strike adds strength to the material and leaves behind a texture you can feel. No two hoods are ever the same — the pattern of the hammer marks becomes the signature of that individual piece.
This is slow work. Intentional work. And it’s what gives our range hoods their depth and character.

3. We Shape, Build, and Engineer It to Last
After hammering, we shape the metal into the final form of the hood. Panels are cut, curved, and fitted together by hand. Seams are carefully welded and smoothed so the form feels seamless and sculptural.
Inside, we build the structure to support proper ventilation, lighting, and installation. Beauty is meaningless if it doesn’t function perfectly — so we engineer every hood to perform as well as it looks.

4. We Create the Patina by Hand
Patina is where the emotion lives.
Copper and brass are living metals — they change, deepen, and evolve over time. We guide that transformation by hand, using heat, natural reactions, and time-tested techniques to bring out rich colors and layered tones.
Some clients want warm honeyed ambers. Others love deep browns, smoky charcoals, or hints of verdigris. Each patina is built in layers and watched closely. There’s no formula — just experience, timing, and instinct.
Once the finish feels right, we seal the surface to protect it while still allowing the metal to age gracefully in your home.

5. We Obsess Over the Final Details
Before any hood leaves our workshop, we go over every inch:
- Edges are softened by hand
- Welds are refined
- Patina is balanced and even
- Lighting and vent integration are tested
We don’t ship “good enough.” We ship pieces we’re proud to put our name on.

More Than a Range Hood — A Statement Piece
A custom Amoretti Brothers hammered copper or brass range hood isn’t just about ventilation. It’s about presence. It becomes the centerpiece of the kitchen — the element that anchors the room and gives it soul.
When you commission a piece from us, you’re not just buying a product.
You’re bringing a piece of old-world craftsmanship into your home — something made slowly, intentionally, and built to age beautifully with you.
